Cold Day

In Cold Day, the artist captures an intimate and quietly surreal moment rooted in memory, distance, and care. The sculpture portrays his grandfather seated in a domestic armchair, wrapped against an unseen chill, his body closed in on itself as if preserving warmth. Beneath the blanket, almost hidden, rests a small dog—an understated but vital presence that anchors the scene in tenderness and companionship.

Conceived after a dream during the pandemic, the work reflects a time marked by isolation, vulnerability, and the fragility of human connection. The grandfather’s posture—arms folded, gaze distant—suggests both resilience and retreat, while the dog introduces a quiet counterpoint of loyalty and comfort. The composition balances realism with a dreamlike stillness, evoking the blurred boundaries between memory and imagination that defined that period.

Cold Day is not only a portrait of a loved one, but also a meditation on care, aging, and the subtle ways affection persists even in moments of distance and uncertainty.
