Nowhere to Go
This diminutive self-portrait, measuring less than 20 cm in height, articulates a state of psychological disquiet and existential suspension. Produced at the age of twenty in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, the work emerges from a period marked by acute anxiety and pervasive uncertainty.
The figure occupies an ambiguous condition between motion and inertia, its posture suggesting a trajectory that ultimately leads nowhere. This tension between propulsion and stasis becomes a central formal and conceptual device, evoking a sense of disorientation and loss of direction. Despite its modest scale, the sculpture carries a striking corporeal presence, rendering the artist’s internal state with both precision and vulnerability.
Rather than resolving uncertainty, the work sustains it—positioning the body as a site where instability is both experienced and made visible.
