UNO

This work emerged from existential conversations I shared with my grandfather and was created for him before his death. I portray myself alongside him, bringing together youth and old age as two stages of the same existence—a dialogue between a life already lived and one still in formation.

The bifront evokes Janus, the Roman god of beginnings and endings, while also connecting with pre-Columbian traditions such as Valdivia, Jama-Coaque, and La Tolita, where the double face appears as a symbol of transition. Marble represents the enduring, clay the unfinished, and skin the living. The base, inscribed with ancestral solar signs, connects our personal relationship with a broader cultural heritage.
